Mani Rimdu festival tour designs those who are interested to combine his/her trekking with some glimpse festival of Nepal. Mani Rimdu festival is considered as one of the important and biggest event of the year for the Sherpas of the Khumbu region. This festival observed in the month of October/November (Full moon of the 9th Tibetan month) in Solu at Chiwang monastery or Tyangboche monastery in Khumbu. The festival originated in Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. The date of this festival is fixed only after the Tibetan Calendar comes out with the New Year festival, Lhosar. The Chiwang monastery located at an altitude of approximately 10,000 ft above the sea level. This monastery is situated at the top of the hill which takes about 3 hour walk from Phaplu, 4 hour walk from Junbesi and 3 days walk from Jiri and Tyangboche monastery, lying in the Everest region and also situated in lap of Ama Dablam (6812m), which takes about 3/4 days walking from Lukla and 8/9 days walk from Jiri. From here the visitor can view the highest mountain of the World, Mt. Everest 8848m, and other snow capped mountains. However, historically, this festival has been connected with Bonpo (Pre-Buddhist religion of Tibet) and ritually this is centered on Padma Sambhava, one of the founders of Tibet Buddhism and the father of NYING-MA-PA sect. On this festival, the 13 different dances are performed by the Lamas of the monastery. The 3 days celebrations of Mani Rimdu follow the 10 days of non-stop prayer sessions addressed to the patron deities seeking blessing from the god of all mankind. The deity propitiated is Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. The ceremony begins with the blowing of horns in the afternoon after which the abbot of the monastery accompanied by other monks chant prayers. The congregation is blessed and given holy water and auspicious pellets for good luck and longevity. An orchestra of cymbals, horns, flutes, and conch shells announces the start of the second day’s celebrations. Monks in colorful robes and huge glowering masks perform dances symbolizing the destruction of evil. On the last day, Tormas (figures made of dough) are consigned to a sacred fire. This implies the end of negative forces and the advent of a blessed New Year. This tour will not only focus the festival but also glimpse of Worlds highest mountain, an excursion of Kalapatthar (5545m) and Everest base Camp (5450m) which is offers an enduring experience of natural beauty, geological magnificence and profound cross-cultural discovery.

We will then arrive at a small village called Monjo. Monjo is the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. After entering the National Park, we descend down to Bhote Koshi River upon which we arrive at Jorsalle village. We walk further from there heading off to Namche Bazaar, a prosperous trade hub in the lap of the Himalayas which is also the capital of Khumbu region. We will stay overnight at a hotel in Namche Bazaar.

After already having ascended an altitude of 3,440 m (11,253ft), we will use today for acclimatization. It is very important that our body is prepared for further ascending. You have the day at your disposal and can choose to do what you wish with it. You can walk up to the Everest View Point Hotel and enjoy the view it offers. You can also choose to just walk around Namche Bazaar and observe the local proceedings and lifestyle. If it is Saturday today, there will be local traditional Saturday Market and it will be a wonderful experience visiting the marketplace. There is a Sherpa Museum in Namche which would be the place to visit if you are into Sherpa culture and history of mountaineering.

Today after breakfast we start our trek with pleasant walk through the forest with magnificent view of mountains. The great view of the mighty peaks like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde peak is a constant throughout the day. Today's trail ascends through the forested on its way to Tengboche. The first thing that could draw your attention after reaching Tengboche could be its big monastery. Tengboche has large campsite, tea houses and lodges overseeing Mt. Ama Dablam. We will spend the night at a hotel in Tengboche.

You will have three full days to enjoy the fascination of being part of the historic Mani Rimdu Festival. The festival will be celebrated at the Tengboche Monastery, also known as Dawa Choling Gompa. Built in 1916 by Lama Gulu, Tengboche Monastery is the largest of its kind in the Khumbu region.

These three days will give you a proper chance to be a part of the Mani Rimdu Festival and experience the mystic cultural, traditional and religious essence associated therewith. Please note that the number of days you spend to observe the Mani Rimdu Festival can be shortened or lengthened to suit your calendar.

You will have your breakfast at your lodge and head to Tengboche Monastery to observe Mani Rimdu. You will return to your lodge for dinner and to stay overnight.

This will be the final day for you to be a part of Mani Rimdu Festival. You will have your breakfast at your lodge and head to Tengboche Monastery to observe Mani Rimdu. By the end of the day, you will have three days’ wonderful memories of Mani Rimdu Festival. You will return to your lodge for dinner and to stay overnight.

We will leave Tengboche with all the fascination of Mani Rimdu festival still in our vivid memories. The day consists of a lot of descending until we arrive at Deboche. The trails ascend from there through rhododendron forest.  The trails take us down to a valley and later through riverside plains before we reach Dingboche. It is a relatively easy day in terms of walking.

There is a lot of vertical gain today even though the trail length does not clock more than 4.5 miles in itself. We walk through the alpine meadows and yak pastures to cross the Khumbu Glacier. The end of the moraine of the glacier has a specifically steep and presents a challenge. We then continue along the rugged route to reach Lobuche where we will stay for the night. Lobuche is situated beneath the Lhotse Ridge.

For those of you who are doing the Everest Base Camp Trek for the first time, the day starts with a mixture and anxiety. Today you will be hiking up to the Everest Base Camp. The day will be the most challenging day of the trek and at the same time the most fulfilling as well. The base camp is situated at an altitude of above 5,000m (16,000ft).

We start off by hiking to Gorak Shep first. It is a small village sitting atop a small frozen lake buried under sand. We will have our lunch thee and hike further following the trails of the Khumbu Glacier. On the way you will catch the glimpse of an intimidating black rock the world knows by the name of Mt. Everest. The way will lead us to the Everest Base Camp. Have you ever heard or read that Mt. Everest cannot be seen from the Everest Base Camp? You will find the answer yourself. We will spend quality time exploring the base camp and surrounding areas and return to Gorak Shep to spend the night.

Our first destination for the day will be Kala Patthar. We will start especially early and your guide will arrange everything for the early departure. The reason behind leaving early is to reach Kala Patthar before sunrise. Kala Patthar provides the most wonderful sight of sunrise over Mt. Everest and other Himalayan peaks such as Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Pumori. You would not want to miss that. It will take a couple of hours to reach Kala Patthar from Gorak Shep. We will take our time enjoying what Kala Patthar has to offer before heading down to Gorak Shep and then to Pheriche to stay overnight there.

After being part of the Mani Rimdu Festival, it is now to start our return trip. After breakfast we trek back with enjoying the lush green scenery around and passing through the incredible mountain scenery and local Sherpa village. We will call it a day after we arrive at Namche Bazaar and find a nice lodge to spend the night.

We continue our trek back by heading towards Lukla from Namche. As the trails will be mostly downhill on your way back, the walk is fairly straightforward. After your arrival in Lukla you will have time to relax and celebrate the completion of your trek and being part of the historic Mani Rimdu Festival 2015.
