Overview

Tamang Heritage trek trails gives an opportunity to experience the beauty of this mountain region and the culture of the Tamang people who live here. The trail passes through traditional Tamang villages where life, culture, and crafts have remained unchanged since the beginning of the settlement. Warm traditional welcome hosted by the locals, their elaborate costumes, rich architecture of their mountain houses, and the ancient monasteries and places of pray add color to the experience of this trail. In addition to cultural experience, the trek also offers wilderness experience through beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat meadows, and rhododendron forests

The people of this region are mostly Tibetans who came from Kerung in Tibet across the border and settled in Nepal. In earlier days, the citizenship of Nepal would not be offered to real Tibetans, so they changed their ethnicity to Tamang, which is what they still write till date. The cultural and traditions of these people are similar to the Tibetan across the border. The trail starts either from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim. The trail may end back in Syabrubesi or follow the Langtang trek from Briddim village via Khanjim.

Nepal visitors recommended you, tamang heritage trail is a unique homestay program in langtang region. Goljung and Gatlang are traditional Tamang villages. While Goljung has ancient monastery, Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is the Tamang settlement. One can also visit a Tamang monastery and the beautiful Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang. From the viewpoint at Bahundanda near these settlements, one can also see a panoramic view of Lantang, Kerung, and the Ganesh Himal, Sanjen Himal ranges.

Tamana heritage trek basically starts from Syabrubesi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, Timure, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Langtang valley and Kyangjin Gompa. Goljung, Gatlang and Langtang are traditional Tamang villages culminating cultural features. The visit to beautiful local Tamang monastery and the holy Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang adds delight to your trekking. During the trekking you enjoy the dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7245m.), Langtang Kerung, Chimse Danda ridge crossed by Ganjala Pass (5122m.), Dorje Lakpa (6989m.), Jugal Himal, Paldor peak, Ganesh Himal, , Manaslu, Shringi Himal, and Sanjen Himal ranges.

Itinerary

Arrive in Kathmandu: Upon arrival at Tribhuwan international airport, welcomed by our representative and transfer to hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. A pre trip meeting and briefing will held all together with you at hotel about the daily program activities by company representative and your trip Leader/Guide where you can discuss your final questions all together.

After breakfast the day will start with a guided tour of Kathmandu's historical and spiritual key attractions; including the historic Kathmndu Durbar Square, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swayambunath) and then finally visit to Patan Durbar square which is situated the heart of the city constitutes the focus of visitor's attraction. In the evening there will be pre-trip discussion where you can meet your group leader/guide then you can ask any questions you may have.

You have breakfast being of the early morning and we drive to Syabrubensi by regular bus, its takes approximately 8 hrs. You see along the driving time good view Himalayas of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang before Rani Pauwa then down to Trisuli via a flat piece of land of Batar stop for Lunch (550m). After lunch we continue drive to Dhunche the head quarter of Rasuwa district then we further drive to Syabrubensi 

 

After an hour and half's climb from Syabrubesi, you reach the view point from where you can see the fantastic views of the Ganesh Himal, Gosaikunda range and the Goljang valley. We have lunch at Goljang then an hour walking down hill from the view point and another 3 hrs walk from Goljang we reach at Gatlang. Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is a Tamang settlement. One can visit a Tamang monastery and beautiful Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang. 

 

The walk begins by descending to Thangbuchet by the Bhote koshi River. Stop for the lunch here. Chilime Hydropower dam is situated here. After lunch, the trail will be climb up, crossing the hanging bridge. You will keep climbing until you get to Tatopani you can cleanse yourself in natural hot springs with bathing areas in the lap of the mountains. Locals believe that the waters have a healing quality that eases away your aches and pains. 

After breakfast you trek to Thuman. En-route you can encounter animals like monkeys and deer. The trail ascends to Nagthali Danda (3300m), the high open grassland with amazing views of the snow covered Himalayas. Stop for lunch at Brimdang village. After lunch, the trek continues with an ascent to Nagthali Danda. You can enjoy the view and spend some time at the top accompanied by tea prepared by the care taker of the Gompa. The trek continues down to Thuman, a Tibetan-influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance. 

 

From Thuman to Timure you can visit nearby historical Rasuwagadi. (Nepal-Tibet boarder) is just 3hrs walk from Timure and lies on the bank of River. This day's trekking grants you an opportunity to observe Tibeto Burman Tamang culture on the two villages on the way. Timure is on the old trade route to Tibet. A fort here is a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibetan relations that has existed for many centuries.

It takes about six hours. You can experience village life of Briddim. Moreover you can enjoy cultural show performed by community members. You can also experience of home stay and Tamang culture. To mention about Briddim is a Tibetan Buddhist village in the bosom of Langtang Himal. Around 43 houses are spread in Z shape. Most of the houses are made up of stone and have roofs of split shake. As direct descendant of ancient Tibean immigrants, the culture and tradition of Briddim closely resembles that of nearly Tibetan villages. You can also experience of home stay and Tamang culture.

It takes 3 hours. You trek from Briddim to Syabrubesi via Wangel. This day the trail moves gentle descent passing through villages, terraces and magnificent views of surrounded hills.

Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu and it takes eight hours. It is a pleasant drive back to Kathmandu with splendid views of hills, mountains, terraces and villages. You drive along the unpaved road till Betrawati and you begin to follow narrow well paved road.

This full day at leisure to rest, relax or explore the local area in Kathmandu or do a bit of last minute shopping. You also have the option of doing some sight-seeing. Evening will have farewell meeting.

After breakfast you will have some free time until the time to leave the international airport for your final departure.
