Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuwan international airport, welcomed by our representative and transfer to hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. A pre trip meeting and briefing will held all together with you at hotel about the daily program activities by company representative and your trip Leader/Guide where you can discuss your final questions all together.

After breakfast the day will start with a guided tour of Kathmandu's historical and spiritual key attractions; including the historic Kathmndu Durbar Square, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swayambunath) and then finally visit to Patan Durbar square which is situated the heart of the city constitutes the focus of visitor's attraction. In the evening there will be pre-trip discussion where you can meet your group leader/guide then you can ask any questions you may have.

This morning we take a flight west to Pokhara, Nepal's second largest town (820 m). On arrival you are greeted with sights of the entire Annapurna Range. The drive to the road-head at Khare takes around one hour. Our trail then winds uphill through terraced fields and mixed oak and rhododendron forest. There is no need to rush. This is a short day with plenty of time to reach camp. Australia Camp is located on a grassy ridge that affords inspiring views of the huge snowy face of Annapurna South and the sacred peak of Machapuchare. At dusk we can appreciate the lights of Pokhara over a thousand metres below our camp.

After a glorious mountain sunrise we follow the trail through rhododendron forest before continuing through a series of Gurung villages where lifestyles have not changed substantially over the centuries. After lunch we follow a well-marked trail to the prosperous village of Landruk where we camp for the night. Our camp affords dramatic views of Annapurna South.

Our destination this day is easily seen across the valley, the attractive Gurung village of Gandrung. Unfortunately we must descend to the valley floor to reach it! Slowly descending through rice terraces, we cross the steel bridge across the glacial river of the Modi Khola and commence our ascent. As we trek up the many staircases, we enjoy the beauty of the Himalaya at a relatively close range and observe the glaciers flowing from them to form the rivers below us. It really is a magnificent location and a photographer's delight. Our leisurely approach along these ridges with their fine mountain views ensures proper acclimatization and the un-hurried opportunity to fully savor this magnificent scenery.

Our trail meanders uphill through fields and into the forest of rhododendron and magnolia. We pass by waterfalls that cascade down narrow gullies that provide the perfect home for many small ferns and delicate plants. Tadapani is a clearing in the forest and a rest place for porters. We make camp here and observe the local people as they travel by.

Leaving the main trekking trail we continue to ascend on a less defined path through forest to a grassy clearing which makes a good setting for lunch. The area lends itself to exploration and appreciation of the mountains, flora and fauna. To wander with your camera a little way will reward you with stunning views of the Annapurna Himal. Our campsite is in a treed gully and quite isolated. The view from the hillock behind is something very special and a Himalayan highlight. You may be fortunate and see some wildlife here; Himalayan Thar, Hyrax or Rhesus and Langur monkeys.

The trail leads us onto a ridge that flows from the very summit of Annapurna South itself. We crest a spur and the imposing and massive cliffs of Dhaulagiri 1 (8167m) rise before us. Far below lies the Kali Gandaki valley, at around 7,000m deep, said to be the deepest gorge in the world. It impresses upon us the insignificance of humans against this scale. It is hard to imagine that peaks around us were once part of the ocean floor. Today's walk takes us though pristine Himalayan forest that is reminiscent of the setting of Tolkein's novels. Lunch is taken by a small stream in a sheltered gully and the afternoon trek ascends through dwarf rhododendron to our camp below Kopra Ridge.

The ridge above our camp is our goal today and it should be accomplished in a steady but comfortable morning walk. We rise through the forest and above the tree line. Once atop this ridge we contour around the grassed alpine meadows to our camp site in a most spectacular setting. Excellent views are enjoyed of Dhaulagiri I, Annapurna 1 and Fang, Annapurna South, Tukuche Peak, the Nilgiri and deep along the valley into the mountains of Tibet. This is one of the most enjoyable and expansive views in the Annapurnas. In the grasses we may see the spectacular Danphe Pheasant, the national bird of Nepal, and more wildlife might be sighted on the rocky cliffs.

For those who are feeling fit and enthusiastic, the trip to Kaire Lake high above us is well worth the effort, not only for views and the feeling of exhilaration after your achievement but to see shrines that are the site of the annual Badau Purnima Festival. The walk takes us even closer to the sheer cliff face of Fang. In the early afternoon, we will descend for our overnight camp at Kopra Ridge.

We descend steeply from our camp, following the ridge line towards the Kali Gandaki and pass shrines used by pilgrims on their annual visit to the sacred lakes. There may be shepherds on the trail, as well as villagers going about their daily activities as we descend. There is more activity and signs of settlement, a marked contrast to the trekking we have enjoyed on the high ridges.

A short walk brings us to Chitre where we join the old Tibet-Nepal trade route. The walk this morning offers excellent views of the Dhaulagiri range as the trail zigzags until we reach Ghorapani. This is a sizeable town and you may wish to wander through the bazaar this afternoon.

From Ghorepani a pre dawn 45 minutes climb brings us to the summit of Poon Hill (3200m). The view of the Himalaya are tremendous, with forested foot hills as a fore ground and some of the world's greatest mountain ranges surrounding us .The glow of the rising sun catches Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Annapurna, making the early morning rise more than worth the effort. We descend to camp for breakfast and during the morning we descend further through first and small settlements to enter a deep ravine where multiple water falls follow our trail. We pass through Ulleri village and at a point we will have an over view of our trek route, as well as views of the Annapurnas at the head of the valley. We continue on the main trail descending through small villages towards of Tirkhedhunga. After lunch an easy descent for 2 hrs along the Bhurung Khola takes us to Birethanthi, a large prosperous village and ancient trade centre with Tibet. From here, Nayapul is just 20 mints walk where we will board the bus for Pokhara.

Those who have still more vacation and still are interested in continuing on to the Jungle Safari, River Rafting or any other tours they can start this day. Otherwise, drive to Kathmandu by tourist bus. Along the way you can enjoy with good scenery views. You'll be arriving at Kathmandu late afternoon. You're free in Kathmandu for shopping.
